Selection of candidates to represent schools. Candidates to devise their manifesto papers. (1st-21st Oct) Students advised to run on issues relevant to young people as opposed to political parties. Suggested that year 10/11 students should be considered for the Shadow Youth Council to allow for two years attendance
Teresa O'Hare, Environmental Issues, Paul McDaid, University of Ulster, Barbara McCabe, Ulster Peoples College, Noelle Farry, workshops on design of Manifesto papers for elections. (23rd Oct)
Manifesto papers sent to schools. (22nd Oct - 5th Nov)
NOVEMBER 1998
John Paul Lederach launched the project in the Townhall.(Nov 5th)
Fermanagh District Council held information sessions for teachers co-ordinating the project. (Nov 6th)
Short presentation by co-ordinators at school explaining electoral procedure. (Nov 10th-15th)
Election date. All schools were used as polling stations and all students had the right to vote. (Nov 18th)
Count in Townhall. Candidates, teachers, parent and election agents invited to the Townhall for the count. (Nov 19th)
Training for elected representatives of Shadow Youth Council.(Nov 27th and 28th)
Residential at the canoe centre for elected councillors. (Nov 29th-30th)

Shadow Youth Council consultation on "Future Search 2010 Strategy) drawn up by the council. (Ongoing)
Shadow Youth Council present at meeting on Lusty Beg Island to discuss the above (Jan 14th-16th)
MGMcB met with chief executives of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Brae Council on subject of setting up their own Shadow Youth Council. (Jan 20th)
MGMcB set up a meeting with Public Achievement Representative (an organisation aiming to promote involvement of young people in organising community projects) in council chamber. (Jan29th)
Training in confidence building for Shadow Youth Councillors by Willie O'Donnell. (Ongoing once per month up until June)
