Night of Celebration
Fermanagh Shadow Youth Council hosted their Night of Celebration, incorporating their AGM on Thursday 11 November in the Clinton Centre, Enniskillen. Almost 100 Shadow Councillors, Delegates, friends, family, District Councillors and the new FSYC candidates attended to celebrate the achievements of the current Shadow Youth Council.
The business part of the meeting was completed at the start of the night with the AGM of the Management Committee. Five of the current Shadow Councillors gave a comprehensive activity report of all the projects, consultations and training they had been involved in over their two year term of office. Once the business was out of the way it was down to the main item on the Agenda – celebrating the achievements of the 2002-2004 Shadow Youth Council.
Each of the Shadow Councillors and Delegates received a certificate, presented by Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Cllr Gerry McHugh, for their involvement in the Shadow Youth Council stating the number of voluntary hours they have given. Some Shadow Councillors had given as much as 186 hours of voluntary time working on issues of importance to the young people of Co Fermanagh.
This is a huge achievement and something that the management committee felt it was important to recognise and celebrate. During the distribution of certificates the participants were able to show their appreciation by blowing on hooters and whistles! There were also pictures of each of the Shadow Councillors and Delegates on a powerpoint presentation, bringing many smiles and red faces to the young people concerned.
Following the presentation there was a buffet and entertainment by local band Nice n Sleezy. The Shadow Councillors and Delegates also had the opportunity to send a farewell message to each of their fellow members by writing messages on posters with photographs of each member.
Judging by the noise and laughter coming from the Clinton Centre it is fair to say that the Shadow Councillors and Delegates of the 2002-2004 Fermanagh Shadow Youth Council really enjoyed the night celebrating their achievements. They commented in particular on the great friendships they had formed with their fellow members and wished the new group a successful and enjoyable time with Fermanagh Shadow Youth Council.
