Trust Award £8,000 for "One World for All" Event
Following the hard work of a working party of Shadow Councillors
and Delegates under the previous Shadow Council, £8000 has been
secured to hold an event aimed at developing awareness of cultural
diversity in Fermanagh and beyond.
The event was planned after Racism was highlighted as an issue
in manifestos and comment cards has been put together with the
help of local group "Women of the World". Details will be finalised
in due course.
Skaters of Pure Excellence meet with Sports Council
Adult committee members have met with a Sports Council representative
to discuss possibilities for setting up an umbrella organisation
for the sport. This was suggested at a conference attended by
adults and young people from around Northern Ireland and beyond
which showed a big demand for skate park facilities but problems
with safety standards and insurance.
The meeting highlighted a "chicken and egg" situation: An umbrella
group needs members from up and running facilities; facilities
can't get up and running without insurance and safety standards
an umbrella group might help to get. Adult committee members
also recently attended a meeting in Omagh where funding has
been put aside for a park. In the mean time there are no local
facilities after an "unofficial park" operating locally is closed.
Skaters have said that they would like to be kept informed about
any developments with an umbrella organisation but would like
to concentrate on trips to other parks and getting temporary
sites in Fermanagh.
